SCCGRA Members Attend First IGRA Rodeo of the Year!

Posted By Wrangler Brian on February 23, 2010

The 25th annual Road Runner Rodeo was held in Phoenix, Arizona over Valentine’s Day weekend, February 12-14, 2010. Phoenix is host to the first rodeo of the our annual season & one of the largest Gay Rodeos on the IGRA circuit during the calendar year. The rodeo attracted 130 contestants from all over the US & Canada.

Contestants from the mid-west & northern parts of North America always enjoy attending the Phoenix Rodeo this time of year to escape the snow and cold subzero temperatures they have been experiencing throughout the majority of North America. Phoenix welcomed attendees with a sunny and comfortable 75 degree temperature on Saturday & 77 degrees on Sunday.

The Sacramento Posse represented Sacramento’s Capital Crossroads Gay Rodeo Association (SCCGRA) extremely well over the weekend earning multiple achievements by bringing home thirteen ribbons!

The SCCGRA posse consisted of 15 members from Capital Crossroads: Sacramento John, Sam V., his brother from Colorado, Alan V., HotTub, Ryan R., Jeff Barr, Wes W. (Wild Wild Wes), Jody C., Bill B., Mark B. (Chopper) , Nicole P., Nikki A., Chris Y., Gerry G. and Julie C.

We had two cowboys from the SCCGRA Team that had great catches in Calf Roping on Foot. Congratulations goes out to Jody C. for catching his calf on Sunday and earning the blue ribbon!  In addition, Ryan R. was successful in catching his calf on Sunday and got 5th place.

Congratulations goes out to the Wild Drag Team of Nicole P., Chris Y. and Gerry G. for placing 4th on Saturday and 3rd on Sunday.  Great work!

How many SCCGRA members can you name in this photo?

In the Men’s Chute Dogging event, Chris Y. placed 3rd with a hot time of 4.32 seconds and Wild Wild Wes placed 8th on Saturday.  On Sunday, Wild Wild Wes placed 4th and Sacramento John placed 7th.Jeff and Wes

Bill B. scored 7th and Sam V. scored 8th place on horseback in the Flag Race on Saturday.  Alan V. was successful in “sticking” the flag in the bucket both days.

The Steer Decorating Team of Wild Wild Wes and Jeff B. placed 5th on Saturday and Chris Y. placed 4th on Sunday.

Jeff B. and Wild Wild Wes placed 4th in Goat Dressing on Sunday.

SCCGRA's Web Wrangler and Assistant Rodeo Director, Brian L., also attended the Phoenix rodeo to get the word out about our upcoming 2010 Sierra Stampede Rodeo and Festival.  He was able to get posters hung up all around the grounds as well as shake hands and discuss the rodeo with some of the officials invited to our rodeo.

Overall we had a great start to the 2010 Rodeo Circuit Season, and the SCCGRA Rodeo Competition Team placed an outstanding and respectful 5th place overall out of 16 IGRA associations represented at the Phoenix Rodeo!  Keep up the great work!
