Sierra Stampede Rodeo Volunteer Positions

 

The following are available Volunteer Positions for our Rodeo. Contact the Vice President of Rodeo Operations at vpops@capitalcrossroads.org to sign up and be a Rodeo supporter.

   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Set-up Volunteers

  1. Thursday & Friday at the rodeo grounds in Rio Linda, CA
  • Set-up tents in vendor Area
    Create shade canopy over grand stands
    Set-up pipe fencing as the contestant horse stalls
    Assist in running power and water to vendor booths that need power and water
    Set-up mister systems (if available)
    Set-up and test Arena Sound System (Friday)
    Set-up dance floor and other entertainment items.
    Hang signage
    Set-up is all day Thursday and all day Friday.
Tear Down Volunteers
  1. Monday at the rodeo grounds in Rio Linda, CA
  • Take down vendor tents and restore in boxes
    Take down grand stand canopy
    Take down pipe fencing used as contestant horse stalls
    Pick up trash
    Return items to storage
Registration Volunteers
  1. Friday night registration tables at the Host Hotel – Contestant Registration is from 6PM to 9PM per IGRA rules. Volunteers should be at the Host Hotel around 5:30PM and report to the Contestant Registration Coordinator.
  • Set-up room and supplies necessary for Registration
    Assigned to a table to assist contestant registration.
    Find contestant pre-registration forms and assist in filling out completely
    Assist treasurer or cashier in payment of entry fees
    Write receipts for entry fees paid/received
    Give contestant bags to paid contestants
    Assist Announcer if necessary to get contestants to fill out announcer cards

Front Gate Volunteers

  1. Saturday and Sunday at the Rodeo Grounds in Rio Linda, CA
  • Assigned to stay at the front gate and take admission, issue wrist bands for that day’s rodeo and check all people entering for either laminated badge, wrist band or weekend laminated passes. All others need to pay admission to get the wrist band. Vendors should have a laminated badge similar to weekend passes.
  • Should be able to count money, be sociable with the public entering the main/front gate.

Contestant Liaison Volunteer

  1. Saturday & Sunday at the rodeo grounds in Rio Linda, CA
  • Runner – gopher
    Keep water and ice available for contestants and staff.
    Post scores for secretarial staff
    Issue Dean Berkan Safety Equipment to contestants requiring safety vests or helmets
Gate Security Volunteers
  1. Saturday & Sunday at the rodeo grounds in Rio Linda, CA
  • Assigned at an entrance to control entry of the public to contestant area.
    Only allow contestants or specified staff/officials into contestant area.
    Refer all others to the front gate to purchase pass into rodeo grounds.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Volunteer Check-in Table

  1. Saturday & Sunday at the rodeo grounds in Rio Linda, CA
  • Maintain list of volunteers and times, check in volunteers arriving for shifts and issuing wrist bands to those volunteers. T-shirts for all volunteers will be available, but we haven’t decided, yet, if they will be given out at the beginning of their shift, or at the end of their shift, or on Sunday afternoon during Chute 6 volunteer thank you.
  • Check-in booth should be near the front gate, but not INSIDE the grounds. Too much confusion is caused by trying to resolve who is a volunteer after they try to go through the front gate.
  • Volunteers report to Volunteer Coordinator.

Scrip Table Volunteers

  1. Saturday & Sunday at the rodeo grounds in Rio Linda, CA
  • Exchange money for tickets for beverages (beer and liquor).
    Should be able to count money accurately

SCCGRA Merchandise Booth

  1. Saturday & Sunday
  • Assist Merchandise Coordinator in booth to sell t-shirts, coffee mugs, shot glasses
    Must be able to count money accurately.

Arena Volunteers

  1. Saturday & Sunday at the rodeo grounds in Rio Linda, CA
  • Report to Arena Director and work all day. No breaking up of shift.
    There is some slack time. Volunteers will not be working 100% of the time.
    Take directions from Arena Director or assistant Arena Director in setting up events, measuring distance for placement of barrels and poles.
    Rake arena grounds around barrels or poles if requested by Arena Director.
    Set-up knocked down barrels and poles.

Chute Volunteers

  1. Saturday & Sunday at the rodeo grounds in Rio Linda, CA
  • Report directly to Chute Coordinator
    Volunteers must be available all day. No splitting of shifts. Volunteers will not work 100% of the day. There is some slack time.
    Open and close slider gates as animals are loaded into chutes.
    Open and close outside gates for rough stock events.
    Assist Chute Coordinator in placing any halters or ropes on animals for camp events.

Saturday Night Dance – Tickets

  1. Saturday Night
  • Take money for entry to dance/entertainment venue. Issue specific wristband for the night.
    Must be able to accurately count money.
Saturday Night Security
  1. Saturday night
  • Admit ONLY those people that have purchased a wristband or are staff of the bar.
    Two doors need to be stationed. No drinks can cross in OR out of either area.
Beer Truck
  1. Saturday & Sunday at the rodeo grounds in Rio Linda, CA
  • Staffing one of the Bud Light Beer Trucks at the rodeo grounds.
    It is preferred that they do not overstaff that position.
    Tips earned are retained by their organization as their fund raiser.
